it's just perfect, no further comment for our 5 courses. We drove past this town on Friday night, and most of the restaurants either closed or fully booked. We felt so lucky that a table is free for 3 of us. The Deer & Cod main dish were amazing, also love the Ice cream +Chocolate mosse.
Who would have thought that a restaurant with a name like “old donkey” would serve such a fine cuisine!? We definitely didn’t! 😅 So when we sat down, ready for a PROPER meal after a whole day of exploring, we were a bit surprised by the multiple course menu. But as we were too hungry to turn around now, we went for it. 😁 The pumpkin soup and the two types of deer were fantastic but the bean croquettes and the cauliflower biscuits did not quite hit our favorites list tonight. “Alter Esel” is a lovely location and the staff was amazing bit it was not quite what we needed after an exhausting day like today. We take the blame for that! 😁 For your awareness: If you worked up a sweat the whole day and are ready to dig in to regain your energy this is not the ideal spot… BUT if you want to try dishes with a little twist, prepared with love for a “lighter” dinner than this is the spot for you. 👌🏼😁 ENJOY!!
Sensationally delicious! We enjoyed the 4-course menu with wine accompaniment and are still blown away... The food was a poem - very varied and rich in flavors. Wonderfully served by charming service and unobtrusively enriched with interesting information. The absolute highlight was the wonderful sauce and the buttery tender meat in the main course as well as the fantastic nougat creme brulee for dessert. The wines also went very well with the menu and we probably found our new favorite wine in one of them... The rooms are cozy, you feel comfortable and don't have to worry about being underdressed without a suit... The prices were absolutely fair. The restaurant is centrally located in the city center and is easy to reach if you park on the Main. The menu changes, so there is always a good reason to go on a journey of discovery of flavors again...
