Restaurant Löwenzorn is such a popular local restaurant that it's always full !!! During summer they let customers sit outside at their courtyard, a very relaxing dining environment. Ordered one of their specials, Vitello Tonnato, which is cold roast beef served with tuna sauce, you know what, this is one of the perfect chemistry I've ever had in my mouth, with the decorations of capers in the mix of flavors, OMG, you have to order this dish !!! I will definitely look forward to come here again during winter to sit in the indoor dining area of this almost 600 years old historical landmark, a lovely traditional swiss wooden decorated place.
Restaurant serving great traditional Swiss food in rustic atmosphere. We loved the choice on offer on the menu, as well as the friendly service (though it could occasionally be a bit tricky to catch the staff's attention). I ordered the Cordon Bleu and my partner the Schnitzel, both of which we loved, though we didn't care so much for the veggies that were served with the meat. Probably not to everyone's taste. Next time I'll ask first. But definitely a place to go back to on my next visit to Basel. Update: I visited again in July 2025 - this time we were able to eat on the lovely terrace - and thought the "Sautéed veal kidney slices on a cognac cream sauce with sautéed spinach and rice" were absolutely divine!
A wonderful old restaurant located in the middle of the pretty old town of Basel. Positioned on a slight hill, it's a joy to walk up to it through the quaint streets in the area. The restaurant is traditionally decorated and typical for the area. The menu is well balanced and the food and service are of the highest quality. When it's warm you can sit out in the delightful courtyard at the back and while away the hours. A pleasure to eat here.
