Built around 1553 and remodeled in 1603, the Altes Rathaus is a fine example of Renaissance civic architecture in Bavaria. Located on the Marktplatz, it stands at the heart of Lauf’s historic old town, surrounded by medieval gates, towers, and half-timbered buildings. Originally serving as the town’s administrative center, the building no longer houses city offices. Today, the historic interior has been converted into a German restaurant, which preserves the charm of the old sandstone walls and wooden-beamed ceilings. Guests can dine both indoors and outside in the cozy beer garden on the square. The restaurant, also named Altes Rathaus, offers traditional Franconian and German dishes.

Beautiful old town hall in the Marktplatz. Absolutely worth a stop by when exploring Lauf. Plenty of cafes and restaurants to sit and admire the architecture.

eaten here several times, grear everytime for classic German food. has a huge patio in the summer and lovely town to walk around. had this wild boar dish in the winter which was amazing. lady who runs it is really charming as well.
