Delicious local food, warm and welcoming service, and stunning views. I couldn’t recommend this place more! Perfect for hiking, R&R, or a romantic getaway! We had an excellent time, thanks to the lovely and generous staff.

The Osteria Manciana provides food for the soul. Perched in the hamlet of Scudellate, in Ticino, at 904 metres elevation, this Osteria is a gem. The Osteria is a family run agriturismo venture - with Oscar and Simona leading a 5* team - and three generations that have invested soul and energy that welcomes guests like they are coming home. It is buzzing with good vibes, local dialect and the most magnificent views of the Valle di Muggio. The team takes such care in the ambiance - you will likely hear Easy Jazz playing in the background of the Osteria - and the presentation and cleanliness is impeccable. The Osteria borders Italy, where you can hike to in 20-30 minutes, closest town is Erbonne, and many other wonderful hikes such as to Muggio, Muggiasca, Roncapiano, Nadigh and Monte Generoso. Whether you stay just for a meal, the talented Chef curates local homemade delicacies, or experience the bliss of the accommodation, this is an incredible experience. The traditional Osso Bucco and Polenta - a recipe from la Piera (Oscar's mother) is an experience in itself. It's a regional delicacy and made with traditional flavours. The homemade pasta and gnocchi are sinfully delicious. I stayed in the Suite Panorama 'La Dépendance' which is opposite the Osteria. A fabulous apartment with the most stunning views from every single room! Last year I stayed in the Suite 'Nonna Agnese' in the Osteria - yes, it's my second year in a row there :) This was also a wonderful newly refurbished room. And there is the Ostello and the newly unveiled Panorama Lodge ' La Casa dei Gelsi' which is an oasis of calm with a private terrace, delicately designed interior and a hot tub a stones throw away. The 'Casa dei Gelsi' is run by Claudio, and it's a tag team collaboration among friends with Oscar and Simona. The recently refurbished Ostello welcomes school groups and groups of friends wishing to discover the Valle di Muggio. There is something for all budgets. The owners have invested in bringing new generations to this hamlet. The origins of this quaint hamlet remain with the quality of a top hotel. You won't find a TV in proximity, but WiFi is available. This is a moment to disconnect from daily life, reconnect with nature and meet new people. It's buzzing with good vibes. Tips: 1. Transport: Head up using the Swiss public transport as it's punctual and a great way to invest locally, whilst starting to kick back. If you are considering taking your car, check first with the owners that there is space - it's not a big town, and narrow winding roads, therefore there is limited parking. 2. Family: This location provides great respite for families with children 10+ years, couples, groups of friends and the solo traveller. 3. Languages: the owners are multilingual - speaking fluent Italian, English, German and French. And they all make such an effort to share information about the region, history, walks etc. 4. History: The town of Scudellate hosts 10+ locals who have spent their lives there. If you get a chance, do try and connect with them to learn about the Valley. You will find many of the locals watching the world go by on the terrace of the Osteria or in proximity of the Church. 5. Activities: there are a number of hikes, you can bike to towns in proximity ( best to take a mountain bike or e-bike), whilst the avid professional bikers will take to the road and cycle from Morbio Superiore to Roncapiano. It's a steep journey in winding roads. On Tuesday and Saturday there is a church service that the locals attend: this is an opportunity to steep yourself into a local life activity. Visite the Mulino di Bruzella, the ancient milestone restored and working, producing the Polenta di Bruzzela. 6. Equipment: make sure to bring proper mountain equipment if you plan to hike. Ankle-high mountain boots are highly recommended. Wishing you an enjoyable stay in this bucolic Swiss destination.
