Restaurant Cafe zur Grotte Varen : Dorfstrasse 24, 3953 Varen

The place should probably be listed as a bar. Unfortunately only snacks are available in the evening, otherwise there was nothing to eat. Card payment/Twint only with a surcharge of 200%. Too bad. Explainer: I actually wanted to have dinner in the restaurant advertised as a restaurant . Since only snacks were on offer, I ordered a glass of white wine as a matter of decency and planned to go out for something to eat somewhere else, although I'll stop in the village whenever possible. I traveled without cash because you can also pay by card in the restaurant. I can accept that there is a surcharge for fees for a small amount such as a glass of white wine . I don't think it's okay that I then had to pay CHF 9.00 for consuming CHF 3.80. But I accepted it, the landlady had enough to do anyway. However, it was immediately clear that I would never come back to drink wine and would not recommend the place to anyone. Would go directly to Visp next time if the “restaurant” at the grotto is the only restaurant open in Varen.

I was a guest in the grotto and was served very politely and courteously. The location is located in the middle of the beautiful village of Varen and is one of the few locations today that offers a homely and cozy local flair, which I find very nice. I personally didn't eat anything, but I can still recommend it if you're ever in the area to make a detour. My personal recommendation.
