Romantik Hotel de l'Ours : Rte de l'Ancien Pont 5, 1786 Sugiez

It's rare to have lunch in a restaurant where your table cloth and napkin are linen and to be served by an owner who has time for a chat about the hidden gems of the region, like the best wineries. I had already eaten here several years ago and the quality of food and service remains excellent. The menu is commendably restricted and you find meat, poultry, fish and even a vegetarian alternative. The daily lunch menu this Friday mid January 2025 consisted of a vegetable soup, ultra-tender, perfectly executed lamb chops and a desert, all for a very reasonable sum of money. All wines on their rich list come from nearby wineries and are of very high quality and some are also offered by the glass. If you dine here and eat and drink too much, not unusual in the canton of Freiburg, the establishment offers comfortable rooms. Overall, good value for money. Highly recommended!!

If you like a place with historic flair and real history, go for it. Even though Sugiez is not a prime touristy hot spot, this place has a lot of charm. Of course, the 13 Gault Milau points and the friendly and very attentive service will not impair the experience! Maybe you also will do some research on the "Juragewässerkorrektion" to find out why this place has some real history and, for now, just sits somewhere you do not understand why people would bother to build an establishment like that: It used to be on the waterfront and was designed as travel stop for ship travel.

Enjoyed a nice dinner with family and friends. The wine menu is extensive with a lot of local specialties from le Vully as well as international wines. Will definitely come back during the summer to check the garden
