Ristorante Al Fiume ¦ Thalgut : Aarestrasse 7, 3115 Gerzensee

VISIT 1: The restaurant is beautifully located, right on the Aare River with a lovely terrace. Due to the weather, we sat inside. Why not by the window, where there was still a free table the entire evening, remains unclear. The service was unfortunately subpar. From wine with a cork (it happens) to misunderstandings over the main course to the incorrectly served dessert, there was simply too much that shouldn't have happened. We all opted for pizza because the pasta selection is rather special. The pizzas look great, a feast for the eyes. However, the taste was only mediocre, and as far as I can tell, there's no wood-fired oven. In my opinion, the lamb's lettuce I had as a starter had a ready-made sauce on it. We had to ask for the dessert menu after a long wait, but the desserts were okay. The prices were reasonable, too. The constant blaring of Italian pop music from a speaker mounted directly above the table and the empty battery-powered table lamp unfortunately rounded off the experience rather negatively. It's not worth driving from Bern to Gerzensee; the competition in and around Bern is too good. There's definitely room for improvement, and with a little more attention, friendliness, and fewer service errors, Al Fiume could become more of a top-notch restaurant, and with its wonderful location on the waterfront. VISIT 2: I was at Al Fiume again yesterday, and everything was perfect! Top service, super tasty food, and a great atmosphere outside on the terrace. So, of course: I'd love to go back!

Even though we didn't have a reservation and called spontaneously that evening, a table was made available to us. This was despite the large number of guests, and right next to the playground, as we were traveling with our children. We just returned from Italy and were delighted by the authenticity and the delicious and beautiful dishes. The pizza dough is fantastic! Thank you so much!

The food at Al Fiume is highly recommended from start to finish – intensely flavorful, creatively prepared, and beautifully presented. The location directly on the Aare River is simply stunning and lends a very special atmosphere to the visit. Despite the restaurant being packed, the service was attentive, warm, and very courteous. We felt completely at home and would gladly return!
