Gasthaus zum Sternen : Gotthardstrasse 67, 6490 Andermatt

We spoke to some local people and other travellers on our first evening in Andermatt and this restaurant was recommended a couple of times. We didn’t stay here, but would be interested in the rooms if we return to Andermatt. It is a great location, very central within easy walk of the train station and both gondolas. If the restaurant seating area, kitchen and bathroom facilities are reflective of the rooms they will be well kept and clean.

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here while taking a break travelling from Italy to Scotland, via the St Gotthard Pass to avoid the dreadful tunnel. We were a bit late, just after 2pm, but they were still offering a good menu. Superb Rosti and a huge serving of Heidelbeeren sourced from the region - tasted like they should, not bland. All the waitresses were excellent, pricing is fair for Switzerland and so we stopped for longer than we had originally intended. Highly recommended.

Manfred was the kindest host I’ve met in Switzerland. Service was outstanding. His small tavern and hotel has wonderfully quaint rooms that appear to be have recently updated with lighting, new bathrooms. Beds were comfortable and the location can’t be beat. Breakfast was ok and I might skip the dinner in exchange for going out to a dedicated restaurant.
