Röthenbach is in a small village in the backwoods of the Emmental. Most people come to see the 15th century Würzbrunnen church – which is well worth a detour, but don’t stop there. Drive down the hill to the village centre and this wonderful pub/dining room full of locals. As well as Swiss classics done well – like nüsslisalat and platters of cold cuts and cheese – they also make excellent flammekueche . Service is friendly, wine selection good, and if you turn up on the right day you might just find the bi-annual cattle market taking place out the front!

Good, wholesome, flavourful food. Vegetables cooked just to perfection. Sausage or steaks, they know how to make it and the gravies are so tasty! Love this restaurant! It's probably the reason we keep going back 😍 …
