Ristorante della Posta, Via la Santa 24, 6962 Viganello

Authentic restaurant with lovely staff, the food was great an so was the atmosphere. They don't speak English but we all understood each other and it wqs lovely. The Torta della nonna was absolutely amazing! A must ordered dolci.

Simple and very good cuisine! Passing through the area we decide to have lunch at the Ristorante della Posta. Once we arrive and without having booked they make us sit at a table and bring us the menu card. We order: - green salad - 2 plates of homemade gnocchi Excellent dishes, very good and cooked with simplicity. Restaurant with several rooms and a covered outdoor space, well furnished in old style. The very kind and smiling staff, the fast service and excellent prices. At the back it has its own parking. We will definitely return to enjoy other delicious dishes, perhaps a good pizza cooked in a wood oven, thanks for the good lunch, we recommend it!

Unfortunately I have taken a few stars off despite the stunning location was and the pizzas were great. We finished a hike at around 14:30, 12 October 2024 and stopped here. The outdoor seating was half empty with one table along the waterside free. The waiter who was sporting a vandyke goatee and glasses wanted to put us in one of the other tables and I asked if we could take the waterside one for the extra view. His reply was “it’s reserved”. Seriously!! At 14:30 somebody had called in specifically asking for the one lakeside table at sometime after 14:30!!. Total BS!! We sat at a table that happened not to be in his section. He went back to the kitchen and when the next group walked in and asked the different waiter if they could sit in that location there was no problem. And in the intervening hour while we sat and had our meal all the other 8 or so lakeside tables changed diners. So it begs the question why the BS? Was it my accent? I went to this restaurant hotel on a recommendation from a friend who stayed there. But if there is a rogue waiter in your establishment who is making prejudgments based on your accents or looks you should be made aware of it. By the way the waiter who served us was excellent.
