Hotel-Pension-Restaurant-Cafe Kauer : Lamer Str. 29, 93444 Bad Kötzting

This review concerns the restaurant only. It's a Monday; other restaurants are closed, so we came here. The dining room is a trip back to the 1980s. Very clean and well-maintained, but no longer contemporary. In the middle is a kind of buffet for the hotel guests' breakfast. Fruit, muesli, cornflakes, and so on. It's certainly practical for the restaurant; it doesn't always have to be set up. Whether it contributes to the coziness of the restaurant is debatable. The menu is homely, expensive for Bad Kötzting, and extensive. We ordered a roast pork (€13.90) and the onion roast beef (€24.90). The portion size was adequate, appetizingly presented. Nice. The taste, however, was disappointing. You know you can't get oven-fresh roast pork on a Monday evening. Unfortunately, the dumplings weren't homemade, and the sauce (the same as for the roast beef, by the way) was flavorless. The sauerkraut, however... I wouldn't eat it again. The roast beef with onions wasn't something you'd come here for either. Conclusion: Clean place, service is good, food is mediocre. Since the restaurant selection is limited on Mondays, it's okay. But making a long drive here just for that isn't really a good idea. It's a shame.

Not recommended. Even when asked, no electronic bill was provided. Service was beyond strange, almost rude. No card payments, as this would incur fees. The refrigerated counters were so loud that conversation was almost impossible. The food was good.

Nice guesthouse with a good restaurant and breakfast buffet. Friendly staff and service, clean rooms, relatively quiet despite the road, only the small train honks its horn as it passes by.
