Nice steak restaurant in Lausanne. The service is good and the food is decent. We made an online booking for lunch on a Friday and ordered one of the steak tasting menus for two (CHF260) with Wagyu accompanied by a couple of their signature cocktails and wine by the glass. The starter was ham prosciutto which unfortunately for me arrived with a great helping of mozzarella. This wasn't mentioned in the menu, and it was unfortunate as I cannot eat cheese. I didn't complain as I should probably have declared my intolerance, and my wife ate both plates. A shame though. The main course meat arrived on a hot platter but wasn't terribly hot. Perhaps it had been rested too long. The quality was decent. It's not the best selection of steak we've eaten but certainly not the worst. Would have been nice if it had been presented better. Maybe sliced at the table? The sides were excellent, although perhaps the portions were a tad small for two people. I mean, it's vegetables. Be a bit more generous for the money being spent. The waiting staff cleared our plates and seemed to have forgotten we had ordered the tasting menu and had a dessert to come. After reminding the waiter, the star of the show arrived - the pistachio lava cake. Honestly, we'd go back just for that. The after meal espresso was weak and terrible. For the money, we expect excellence and Beef'Or just didn't quite deliver its promise. A shame but at this price point, we can't recommend it.
This was already looking like a great food experience but Lucas turned it into an exceptional one thanks to his good vibes and recommendations. I forgot to take picture of the desert, the olive is a must try! Usually, I take pictures before starting my food but I got overwhelmed by the beauty and smell of the dishes. It’s been almost a week and I still think about Beef’Ør everyday!
I visited Beef'Ør in Lausanne yesterday with a friend, and I was underwhelmed by the experience. Four major issues: - The French language food and wine menus did not match the English one, which caused a bit of confusion. - The “premium Swiss discovery plate” sharing platter for 2, which consisted of three 200g cuts of Swiss beef, sliced on a piece of slate. This was very disappointing. Granted, this is the less expensive/premium option compared to some other offerings (A5 Wagyu), but still I would expect perfect execution at this kind of establishment, at these prices. The beef was seared very poorly (see pic) and was almost begging for a blowtorch treatment. I had no problem with the taste of the beef itself (having lived in Switzerland I am familiar with the taste of Swiss beef), but a better sear would surely have elevated the overall plate. In fact looking at other Google Reviews, there are examples of better-seared meat from the same establishment. The presentation also leaves a lot to be desired (no garnish). We had another picanha steak afterwards, which was a bit more acceptable. - Fries were soggy (honestly had better at my workplace canteen) and unimaginative. Sauces were OK but at rather small quantities. - The price point. One simply cannot charge 136 CHF for that sharing platter (for 2) I had high hopes but unfortunately was not impressed, I could easily find better value spots where I come from in London.
