Had the Rosti and the chimichuri burger and were quite disappointed as we saw that the reviews of this place is quite good. Rosti was not crispy and quite oily, the brown sauce and the sausage was very salty. The burger patty was so dry that it breaks apart easily and that chimichuri sauce taste alittle weird. Maybe we’re just not used to such flavours. The only good thing about this place is that the waitress is quite bubbly and friendly!
We had schnitzel and fondue—both absolutely delicious! The waiter was super friendly and very customer-oriented. Beautiful location, too. Highly recommended!
Awful. Disgusting. Avoid. This was the worst meal we’ve had in Switzerland. We came to Au Vieux Chalet expecting a cozy fondue experience. What we got was a nightmare. Let’s start with the fondue. The texture was all wrong — thin, runny, and separating into weird oily layers Instead of a rich cheese flavor, it reeked of alcohol — so strong it overpowered everything It felt like we were drinking hot white wine with a hint of cheap, rubbery cheese The smell was sour and off-putting The bread was dry and hard, cut into tiny pieces like it had been sitting out all day We each had a few bites and felt sick. Zero comfort, zero flavor, just a nauseating mix of alcohol fumes and old fat. The waiter made things worse. He kept staring at us — not in a polite way. It was unsettling. No smile, no warmth, just long, uncomfortable eye contact. We couldn’t relax. We felt watched the entire time. Like we were being judged or monitored. Then the bill came: 61.5 CHF. For one awful fondue and one can of cola. No side dish, no extras, no care. That’s not expensive — it’s exploitative. No quality, no value, no respect for customers. Avoid this place unless you want to pay premium prices for an upset stomach and a creepy dinner.
