What a location! Right on the lake. Could not get over the views to the lake on one side and the mountains on the other. Apartment is spacious and has everything you need. Floors are very creaky but also over 100 years old and gorgeous! Very friendly and helpful owners and team. 2 minute walk to a grocery store, the boat station and the train station to go up Rigi. Wonderful!!
This hostel is in a very quaint area, very walkable. It has stairs leading into lake Lucerne. It offers kayaking and paddle boarding. It has a little yard that is very cute, and the balconies overlook the lake. You can hear the water at night. Simone is an excellent host, and the Swiss bread and jam is amazing.
I can't say enough good things about our stay at Villa Kapellmatt. My husband and I were traveling with our two teenage sons and spent 3 nights in this apartment. It was perfect! Location: We loved being right on the lake. The views were incredible. Access to the lake was perfect for daily swimming and paddling. The little town has just enough options for dining and shopping. Our original plan was to stay in Lucerne, but I'm SO GLAD we chose this apartment in Vitznau instead. We did spend one day in Lucerne and are really glad we got to see it and explore. But Vitzau was just so enchanting and charming! I'm so very happy with our choice. Rooms: The apartment was so spacious and perfect for our needs. (Working counter-clockwise:) The master bedroom has a small balcony that faces the lake and has the best views. Off the bedroom there's a sitting room where we would relax together as a family. The sitting room and large dining room share a beautiful green stove/heater that I think is such a cool feature. The second bedroom has two twin beds and views of the town and church across the street. The kitchen had everything we needed, and more. We loved the "fancy" dishes. Cooked breakfast and dinner each day of our stay. Off the kitchen is a second balcony with picnic table and large grill. The bathroom was perfect for our needs, just make sure you don't turn off the hot water boiler like I did. lol There is no clothes washer in the unit, but we had the option to use the hosts' laundry for a fee. Store: I loved having the store right downstairs. We bought some canned tomatoes and spices for dinner. And there are lots of cold drinks available too. Noise: It was quite hot during our visit and we had to sleep with all the windows open. The kids didn't like the late night noise from the restaurant and early morning church bells... but they'll get over it, they're kids. The restaurant noise is not an issue from the master bedroom. Area: There are a few small options for grocery shopping in Vitznau. We liked the bigger Coop market in the next town, Weggis. We also really liked taking the mountain train up to the Rigi Summit. Great experience we really recommend! Once we were done exploring the summit, we decided to walk about 1/3 of the way back down. Jumped back on the train for a few stops. Then finished our decent on foot again. Really great experience. If you're a big hiker, you could probably walk the whole thing (up and down) in a day. There are restaurants and a grocery store along the way and at the summit. We enjoyed going into Lucerne for a day. Parking: There is no on-site parking if you come by car. There is a paid city lot right out front. Rates were really surprisingly affordable. First two hours free. Then we paid 6 Euros per 12 hours. I downloaded the app and it was really easy to add/remove time.
