Restaurant Pizzaria Traube : Bahnhofstrasse 16, 8717 Benken

The restaurant was busy on a Friday night but definitely not full. We didn’t make a reservation and still managed to get a seat. The food was ok and the portion was big.

It's still there: extremely good quality, large portions, a big enough car park and a beautiful terrace in the sun and now comes the absolute highlight: all that for two people for just 55 to 70 francs! My mother, who is now 92 but still speaks four languages translating and writing letters, brought me here because she lives nearby. I have rarely eaten so well in a restaurant that looks completely normal from the outside! Then the reservation was really friendly and extremely competent and when we went shopping there, it continued in exactly the same style. Each menu costs no more than 22 francs and includes a soup, a fairly large salad and a large portion of the main course on a set plate. If Horn sticks to non-alcoholic drinks, the price never goes over 70 francs for two people. I don't know of anywhere else in Switzerland that does this anymore! The service is extremely competent and friendly, very efficient and they remember exactly what you order. I went there twice within a week and both times it was excellent, even sensational! The pictures of the food speak volumes. There is also a big enough car park and a beautiful, well-kept terrace outside. It is a good 35 km from my home but I will be going there again next week, not just because of the good food but also because the atmosphere is really excellent there. The whole establishment is an absolute showcase for others who think they have to add 50% to everything and even then they still don't have enough! I was definitely impressed and can only warmly recommend making the trip. What's more, the restaurant is open every day, including Saturday and Sunday!!!

The menu primarily consists of hearty dishes. However, if you stick to the seasonal menus, such as the spring or asparagus menu, you'll also find some very carefully prepared and beautifully presented dishes. We enjoyed the four-course Mother's Day menu, which had a touch of creativity, included a very varied and beautifully presented vegetable side dish, and was significantly better than we expected given the price. The asparagus dishes we chose on our next visit were also impressive in every respect.
