I have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the Bistrot du Lion d’Or in the commune of Cologny, Geneva, Switzerland. Located in a beautiful building that matches the charm of the village, this restaurant is right in the center, with convenient parking spots for guests just in front. The establishment is divided into three areas: a main dining room with large bay windows offering stunning views of the lake, a bistro section facing the road (a bit more casual in style), and a terrace with the same beautiful lake view as the main room. Exceptionally, on Sundays and Mondays, the bistro guests are seated in the main dining room — and that’s when we visited. We were lucky to enjoy the incredible view. The service was warm, welcoming, and efficient. There was a special Mother’s Day menu, and we appreciated being able to mix and match dishes with the à la carte options. We started with a delicately seasoned fish carpaccio with citrus, offering a nice touch of acidity and served with toast — very enjoyable. Then we shared two main courses: the turbot with chanterelles, asparagus, and a meunière sauce — cooked well and full of flavor; and the lake perch fillets served with tartar sauce, fries, and salad — crispy, well-executed, and what you’d hope for in a classic dish. To finish, we had a tiramisu: soft and well-balanced in coffee and chocolate flavors. If I had one small suggestion, it would be to go a little lighter on the cocoa powder on top — it slightly dried the palate. We paired the meal with a local Sauvignon Blanc from the commune of Cologny, which was excellent and a pleasure to discover. Prices are on the higher side, but given the quality of the food and the beautiful views, it’s justified. I’d especially recommend coming on a Sunday or Monday to enjoy the best of both the cuisine and the setting.
New place opened recently in Cologny which is 5 minutes away from Geneva central. Top of the line service excellent food and chicken options were the best. Lake fish was second best. Followed by excellent home made sorbets were out of this world. This will be top choice in this town. Soon they will be serving lunch too as of now they are opened for dinner. Baba rum was good too. Enjoy
