Restaurant Höllenwein : Unterdorfstrasse 1, 3970 Salgesch

I had a late lunch in this hotel/eatery, recommended by Guide Michelin in 2018, the first Saturday of November 2024. It was beautiful outside, less so inside with the interior decoration dating back some four decades. The menu leans heavily towards meat but there are fish and vegetarian dishes available. I chose an entrecôte ordered blue and served close to blue. Luckily I was given a sharp meat knife and still have my own teeth which helped me to finish my steak. The meat was not really as tender as I had expected for a piece from a cow raised in nearby Val d'Herens. The rösti cakes suggested to accompany the meat were industrial so I asked for home made späzli for which you have to pay extra. The wine list mostly features wine from two wine makers in the village and the suggestions by the glass were rather expensive. The staff was young and moderately attentive. Overall not particularly good value for money.

A perfect hunting plate 10/10

From the service to the perfect food, everything was beyond excellent. We felt completely at home. Finally, a restaurant where guests are welcomed, served, and treated like true guests. 5 stars are not enough for such an unforgettable experience. Thank you so much.
